Eliminate Severe Acne: Treatment Options
All types of acne can be divided into two categories, mild and severe. Some examples of mild acne are pustules, whiteheads and blackheads. There are also various types of severe acne, the one that we are going to look closer at in this article is cystic acne.
Cystic acne is the worst form of acne that a person can experience. It is more serious and damaging compared to other forms of acne such as pimples or whiteheads. One of the main characteristics of this type of acne is a deep infection in the tissue that can form nodules. Another denomination for this type of acne is acne vulgaris. When the pores get blocked due to the excess of sebum, acne cysts or acne nodules will appear on the skin. Once this occurs, the pores become blocked and inflamed due to the immune system trying to fight off the infection. An acne cyst is the consequence of an extreme reaction of the body towards a severe infection.
As these powerful attacks occur, the body produces a substance called sebum. Excess amounts of this turn into a rich feeding ground for bacteria that lives inside the skin follicles or on the surface of the skin. The area gets so aggravated by the chemicals issued by the breakdown of sebum that the pimple may grow to be as large as five millimeters in diameter due to inflammation and a surplus of bacteria and oil.
Understanding Cystic Acne
Retention keratosis is another factor that can make facial cysts more severe. When skin cells, especially those that cover hair follicles are disposed improperly, the retention occurs. Improper disposal of cells leads to the clogging of these follicles. If not treated, the infection can amplify in size and area which causes acne cysts to become more serious.
Nodulocystic acne may be produced by the action of hormones. Certain hormones such as testosterone and androgen can cause the production of sebum to increase. Cysts are formed as a consequence of sebum ducts being clogged since they impair the normal sebum outflow. Acne can be directly related to genetic and lifestyle of the person who suffers from it. Stress behavior can contribute to or even increase acne.
Acne cysts take a lot of time to heal since the infection is deep seated however there are acne treatments for cysts. Many dermatologists prescribe a drug called Accutane, and is one taken in the form of a tablet. Its function is to shrink the oil glands which will lower the acne infections. Acne may be cleared with this product however some people who have taken Accutane experienced depression as a side effect. This treatment should be considered the last option due to the important risks involved.
There are treatments such as cortisone injections that are normally administered by a dermatologist to cure cystic acne. This method gives excellent results since it reduces the inflammation and redness of the skin without any pain for the patient. After the injection is administrated the pimple is lowered to the skin level making it less noticeable. It is possible that after undergoing this procedure the skin may show temporary discoloration and bleeding over the area treated.
Cystic acne is very difficult to overcome but it is not impossible. This type of acne requires a special acne skin care treatment since some could worsen the condition. Cystic acne can also be treated with natural products designed to improve the skin in many ways.
